“This drawing series explores experiences of inhabiting a space or a feeling - moving between moments of stillness and arrival to those of change and rupture. They consider the ‘in between’ and try to capture the soft edges of slipping from one state or place into another.”

The artist
Halima Akhtar
Halima Akhtar is a multi-disciplinary artist based in London that works across drawing and sculpture. Her work explores the nature of transitory experiences, with a particular interest in notions of spatial boundaries.
Through use of experimental mark-making, her drawings negotiate both a sense of harmony and also conflict between forms, with flooded areas of colour teased by stuttering edges and lines. The imagery that features within her work is often evocative of object assemblages and surreal landscapes that explore forms and spaces teetering on the verge of intersection.
